My original shower drain leaked and because of the fear of mold, I was forced to dismantle my shower stall to let it dry. In the process I had to cut part of the side off because it was glued to the wall as per installation instructions. Had I used the WingTite, I could have simply pulled it off from the top to let it dry. The WingTite is designed to stop leaks as I had regardless.
The plumber had cut my drain pipe a bit short and an outside coupling could not be used so I purchased an Inside Pipe Coupling to extend my drain pipe so it would be high enough for the WingTite to work properly. The inside pipe is still 1.5 inches in diameter which still meets the Ontario Building code for 1 shower head.
I was a bit off center as described in the YouTube video by TheKMZ1 so I did use some silicone as a precaution. I ran water from a hose onto the shower pan and using plastic weights and my own body weight, no problems occurred with my 300lbs test.
Greg from WingTite responded to all my questions and so fast. I submitted an online form on a Friday, hoping to receive an answer sometime in the following week and I received a phone call within the hour. How awesome is that?
If you're putting in a new shower, save yourself some grief and buy a WinTite so you don't have to screw anything from underneath your shower pan.
